The Pelham Batesville Fire Department (PBFD) has a population of approximately 28,500 citizens and is responsible for providing coverage within 25.00 square miles located both in Spartanburg and Greenville County. Presently, the District is protected by 4 Engines, 1 Ladder, 1 Rescue, 1 Service Company, 1 Brush Truck and 1 Incident Command Unit. All of the above companies are manned on a 24-hour basis, 365 days per year and operates on a 3-shift configuration with 40 personnel assigned to the Suppression Division. PBFD also employs a Daystaff comprised of 8 personnel working 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. The department provides fire suppression, education, prevention, inspection, first responder, rescue, and hazardous materials services to Spartanburg and Greenville County Residents.The Fire District has mutual aid contracts with several Spartanburg and Greenville County Fire Departments to provide fire protection services upon request as well as several mutual fire protection contracts. All shift personnel are involved in an ongoing mandatory training program while maintaining certifications in South Carolina State Level Firefighter, Hazardous Materials - Operations, Medical First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Blood Borne Pathogens, and First Aid and CPR. PBFD also covers the BMW Plant located at 1400 Highway 101 South in Greer. The BMW US Manufacturing Company, also known as BMW Spartanburg, is a vehicle assembly facility for BMW Group. It is BMW's only assembly plant in the United States. The plant is currently BMW's sole global production site for X3, X4, X5, and X6 crossover SUVs whose biggest market is the U.S., while other BMW models sold in the U.S. market are imported.
